Hey people,

Read something about HEALTHY EATING

Healthy eating is not about strict nutrition philosophies, staying unrealistically thin, or depriving yourself of the foods you love. Rather, it’s about feeling great, having more energy, and keeping yourself as healthy as possible– all of which can be achieved by learning some nutrition basics and using them in a way that works for you.

Healthy eating begins with learning how to “eat smart”—it’s not just what you eat, but how you eat. Your food choices can reduce your risk of illnesses such as heart disease, cancer, and diabetes, as well as defend against depression. Additionally, learning the habits of healthy eating can improve your health by boosting your energy, sharpening your memory and stabilizing your mood. Expand your range of healthy food choices and learn how to plan ahead to create and maintain a satisfying, healthy diet.

Help at home...

Hey… The students from Kids 6 learned how they can help at home… They did a schedule with the days of the week and some activities they can do at home: pick up the room, clean the floor, set the table, do the dishes, clear the table, help cooking and make the bed. They took this schedule and they’ll try to help their parents with theses chores.

A quoi ça sert, l’amour ?

A quoi ça sert, l’amour ?
On raconte toujours
Des histoires insensées
A quoi ça sert d’aimer ?

L’amour ne s’explique pas !
C’est une chose comme ça !
Qui vient on ne sait d’où
Et vous prend tout à coup.

Moi, j’ai entendu dire
Que l’amour fait souffrir,
Que l’amour fait pleurer,
A quoi ça sert d’aimer ?

L’amour, ça sert à quoi ?
A nous donner d’la joie
Avec des larmes aux yeux…
C’est triste et merveilleux !

Pourtant on dit souvent
Que l’amour est décevant
Qu’il y a un sur deux
Qui n’est jamais heureux…

Même quand on l’a perdu
L’amour qu’on a connu
Vous laisse un gout du miel -
L’amour c’est éternel !

Tout ça c’est très joli,
Mais quand tout est fini
Il ne vous reste rien
Qu’un immense chagrin…

Tout ce qui maintenant
Te semble déchirant
Demain, sera pour toi
Un souvenir de joie !

En somme, si j’ai compris,
Sans amour dans la vie,
Sans ses joies, ses chagrins,
On a vécu pour rien ?

Mais oui! Regarde-moi !
A chaque fois j’y crois !
Et j’y croirait toujours…
Ça sert à ça l’amour !

Mais toi, tu es le dernier !
Mais toi’ tu es le premier !
Avant toi y avait rien
Avec toi je suis bien !

C’est toi que je voulais !
C’est toi qu’il me fallait !
Toi que j’aimerais toujours…
Ça sert à ça l’amour !

Hey,

A video about FOOD!

Recipe - Delicious sandwich

Since my Inter2 is studying a delicious topic -FOOD!- I thought it might be interesting to share an easy and tasty recipe of sandwich with you guys. Enjoy it!

Chicken, Bacon, and Blue-Cheese Sandwiches

A truly satisfying flavor trio. Prep and Cook Time: 30 minutes. Notes: In summer, this sandwich is great with thick slices of fresh tomato instead of the roasted red peppers.

Total: 30 minutes
Yield: Makes 4 sandwiches

Ingredients
4 slices thick-cut bacon
1/4 cup mayonnaise
2 teaspoons Worcestershire
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1 small garlic clove, minced
8 slices crusty white bread, lightly toasted
1/4 cup roquefort or other soft blue cheese, at room temperature
4 leaves romaine lettuce (thick stem ends removed)
8 to 10 oz. meat from 1 whole rotisserie chicken, sliced
8 jarred roasted red peppers
1/2 avocado, cut into 12 thin slices

Preparation
1. In a medium frying pan over medium-low heat, cook bacon, turning often, until just crisp, 12 to 15 minutes. Drain on paper towels and set aside.

2. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, stir together mayonnaise, Worcestershire, mustard, and garlic. Spread this mixture on 4 toast pieces. On each of the remaining 4 toasts, spread about 1 tbsp. blue cheese.

3. Layer each blue cheese–topped toast with a piece of lettuce, 1/4 of the chicken slices, 2 red peppers, 3 slices avocado, and a slice of bacon. Top each with a mayonnaise-spread toast. Cut sandwiches in half and skewer each half with a toothpick to help hold it together.

TEEN 4 - crazy story!

My students from TEEN 4 wrote a story using the word I gave them.

Check it out (the words in bold are the ones they had to use...):

"One day I talked to my mother on the telephone about the elephant that killed the dog, because he sat on it. Oh no, the dog was under the elephant. After that, I went to the hairdresser and told this to my friend I met there. My friend plays volleyball. Last January, he was in a competition in Mexico and he went there by car. He has a yellow car. When he arrived there it was raining and he used his umbrella. It was very cold there and we took many pictures. He decided to go to the zoo and saw a monkey and the monkey was a pickpocket and stole his walkman. He decided to kill the monkey and ran very quickly from the security guard, who saw what he was doing. The man stopped him and asked "What's happening?" and he said "Nothing!". So, the man smiled and offered my friend an orange. My friend said "No, thank you, I bought oranges yesterday when I went to the supermarket..."

Definitely crazy, isn't it?

quarta-feira, 18 de agosto de 2010

Hey guys ... The students from Kids 6 performed an activity to practice the vocabulary learned in the classroom – food and drink – in their own supermarket. They had to buy and pay for the products. Besides English they had to practice math using the prices…

Their own supermarket...

Their own money...

It was really funny!!!

Ideas worth spreading

Jeff Skoll was the first president of eBay; he used his dot-com fortune to found the film house Participant Productions, making movies to inspire social change, including Syriana; Good Night, and Good Luck; Murderball; An Inconvenient Truth...

Why you should listen to him:
Jeff Skoll was eBay's employee number 2 and president number 1. He left with a comfortable fortune and a desire to spend his money helping others.

The Skoll Foundation, established in 1999, invests in, connects and celebrates social entrepreneurs -- offering grants to people who build businesses, schools and services for communities in need. Every year, it presents the Skoll World Forum on Social Entrepreneurship at Oxford, and runs Social Edge, a networking site for social entrepreneurs.

His production company, Participant Productions, is what Skoll calls a "pro-social media company," making features and documentaries that address social and political issues and drive real change. His film North Country, for example, is credited with influencing the signing of the 2005 Violence Against Women Act. Participant's blockbuster doc, An Inconvenient Truth, is required viewing in classrooms around the world, and has unquestionably changed the debate around climate change. Other Participant films include The Kite Runner, The Visitor, Food Inc., The Cove, and the recent Earth Day release, Oceans.

Writing it down...

After an activity about incorrect words, my students from INTER 4 were supposed to correct the words and then write a story using them. They did it in a group and each one created a sentence...and turned out to be something like this:

"Yesterday I got up very early. I went to the supermarket to buy yogurt for breakfast. But it was raining and I couldn't leave the supermarket. Then I decided to buy onions, because I was hungry. It's strange to eat onions in the breakfast but I couldn't wait because I was very hungry. After I ate the onions, I had a terrible headache. I don't know why. Then I called my mother and asked for help, I said "Mom, I have a terrible headache, what should I do?" and she said "Drink some water and you'll feel better, baby!"

PS: The words in bold are the ones they had to use in the text.

By the way, what about the YOGURT? Wow, crazy story...but then one of my students explained: "When I felt better, I finally had my yogurt..."

lol

=)

Do you have any questions about our story?

Words for things you didn't know have names

#1: Philtrum
Definition:
the vertical groove on the median line of the upper lip

Example Sentence:
His chiseled features even included a well-defined philtrum.

Origin:
In Greek, the primary meaning of philtrum is "love potion" – which suggests that seductive powers were attributed to this facial feature.

#2: Ferrule
Definition:
the protective point or knob on the far end of an umbrella.

Example Sentence:
He used his umbrella as a cane, and with every step planted its ferrule in the ground.

Origin:
Ferrule comes from the Latin viriola, meaning "small bracelet." This makes more sense when you consider that ferrule is also the term for the metal band at the end of a table leg (or similar object) that strengthens it or prevents it from splitting.

#3: Aglet
Definition:
the tag covering the ends of a lace or point – e.g., the reinforcement at the end of a shoelace.

Example Sentence:
A missing aglet can make lacing one's shoes a challenge.

Origin:
Aglet indirectly comes from the Latin acus, "needle" – as does the word acute.

#4: Punt
Definition:
an indentation at the bottom of a molded glass bottle

Example Sentence:
Pouring the champagne, she held the bottle with her thumb in its punt.

Note:
Although it remains a matter of debate, explanations for the function of the punt include strengthening the bottle and also reducing its holding capacity.
The alternative name for the punt is kick.

...
Very interesting, huh? I saw it at the Meriam-Webster site, and if you want to read the complete article, click here.
