Using your tongue with Britney Spears

All of you know that pronounciation in English is very different from pronounciation in Portuguese. Most of the times, for example, we pronounce the letter "l" as "u" in Portuguese, like the word "sal" ou "mural", which you pronounce "sau" and "murau". That doesn't happen in English, where the letter L is always pronounced as L. Also, in English you have the sound of TH, which most of you hate just because it's difficult and unusual for your mouth to do it.

All of you also know that Britney is a sexy chick, and her sexiness spreads all over her body, including... her tongue! Take a look at this video and learn how your mouth must move in the sounds of "L" and "TH". Of course we'll never be as sexy as Britney but, at least, our pronounciation will be perfect :D

Enjoy it!

A Surprise...

A group of students from Inter 4 wrote a very nice composition, take a look and enjoy the end of the story!!!

"I woke up early and I was very hungry. It was raining when I saw my mother in the kitchen preparing breakfast, my father was waiting my sister and he had a terrible headache when my mother said:- Go to the supermarket and buy onions, yogurt and some bottles of water!
My father went to the supermarket and a weird man offered my father some flowers. My dad came back home with some posters and in one of the pictures there was the face of my mother and the words: " I will love you forever."
He gave my mother the flowers and the picture with all the family.
At the beginning I didn't understand! After that my father said: Honey, it's our wedding anniversary!

see ya!

Where to go? Travel tips, by Inter3

Hi people! What's up?
This week I asked some help for my Inter3 students by e-mail. Here's what I asked them:

Dear student,
How are you? Well, I have a problem, and maybe you can help me. My next vacacations are in December and I want to visit a different place. The problem is: I don't know where to go! Oh no!! Could you please help me in this problem? It's very simple to help me. Just recomend me some nice city you've visited, and maybe I'll go there! Use these questions to tell me about the best city/place you've ever traveled to. Add any other information you think maybe important for me:
What's the best city/place you've ever visited? In what state/country is it? Is it in the north, south, south-east...?
What's the weather like? Should I take warm clothes or shorts and bikinis?
I really like going out, so tell me one important thing: What's the nightlife in this city like? Is it dull and boring, or exciting?
I'm very communicative and enjoy making friends, so tell me another important thing: What are the people like in this city? Are they friendly?
What's the architecture like?
What are the stores like?
What did you like most about this city? Do you have any pictures of it to show me? You can find them in Google, or attach your own pictures in this e-mail for me!

Write back soon!

Hugs,
Teacher Bel

Some of the students wrote me back, and I'm going to publish some of their answers for you. The first one was written by Dayana Liz, a journalist who studies here on Saturday mornings:

Hello teacher Bel!
I know few places in Brazil and never traveled outside the country, but my town is very interesting. Itumbiara is located in the South of Goiás, it borders on the state of Minas Gerais and is 200 Km from Catalão. Has nearly 100 000 inhabitants. By car it takes about two and a half hour trip.

The climate is hot all year round, you should always take, light clothing such as shorts, tops and sandals.

The nightlife is good in Itumbiara, have several options of bars, restaurants and also clubs for dancing. During the day you can walk down the Avenue Beira Rio and enjoy the view the River Paranaíba. It cuts the city is very beautiful, especiallty at night.

Or you can rent a boat or a speedboat, is very good.

The people are interesting and very receptive.

The city complete 101 year on October 12 and still has some old buildings, but also has many modern buildings.

There have many stores to buy clothes, shoes and accessories and are expensive. But it has stores with cheaper prices also.

I really like Itumbiara and you will also enjoy.

I'm sending some photos of Avenue Beira Rio. I hope you enjoy.

Kisses,

Dayana!

I loved to receive e-mails from my students. Did you know that all your teachers have an e-mail? You guys should write us more often!

Next week I'm going to publish more e-mail from the students.

teacher Bel

Michael's trip - two versions of the same story.

Michael was looking forward to his business trip to Venezuela because...
He was late leaving the house because...
The traffic was very slow from his house to the ariport because...
At the check-in, he had to accept a seat at the back of the plane because...
The departure was delayed because...
As the plane was taking off, he suddenly remembered that...

Version 1 - by Adriana and Eduardo (Inter 6)

Michael was looking forward to his business trip to Venezuela because he had a meeting with the president of the company. He was late leaving the house because he had not slept well, he had been very anxious, he had woken up late. The traffic was very slow from his house to the airport because of a terrible crash that had happened in that avenue. At the check-in, he had to accept a seat at the back of the plane because that was the last one that was available. The departure was delayed because on that day it had rained too much. As the plane was taking off, he suddenly remembered that he had forgotten his suitcase at home.

Version 2 - by Fábio and Ramon

Michael was looking forward to his business trip to Venezuela because he had dreamed of visiting Caracas, the capital of Venezuela. He was late leaving the house because he had visited the zoo in another city. The traffic was very slow from his house to the airport because the police had closed the street. At the check-in, he had to accept a seat at the back of the plane because he hadn't had enough money to pay for the first-class area. The departure was delayed because it had rained a lot. As the plane was taking off, he suddenly remembered that he had forgotten his son.

El humor de los Les Luthiers

Hola amiguitos,

The food guide pyramid

Hey... My students from Teens 4 learned about food, so we decided to do a Food Guide Pyramid.

The Food Guide Pyramid is one way for people to understand how to eat healthy. It's an outline of what to eat each day. It’s not a rigid prescription, but a general guide that lets you choose a healthful diet that’s right for you. It calls for eating a variety of food to get the nutrients you need and at the same time the right amount of calories to maintain or improve your weight.
