English expressions: "mouth" idioms!

Hi, there!

There's a video (yes, video again...lol)about expressions related to parts of the body. This one brings some idioms with the word MOUTH!

I think it's very interesting to know (and use) some of these expressions rather than just know the parts of the body (people from Inter 2 are studying)!!!

I hope you enjoy it.

Tell me, isn't it useful to know how to say "está na ponta da língua" in English???

I hope so!

Fall Started

Autumn (also known as fall in North American English) is one of the four temperate seasons. Autumn marks the transition from summer into winter, usually in late September (northern hemisphere)when the arrival of night becomes noticeably earlier.

Although colour change in leaves occurs wherever deciduous trees are found, coloured autumn foliage is most famously noted in two regions of the world: most of Canada and the United States; and Eastern Asia, including China, Korea, and Japan. It can also be very significant in Argentina, Australia, Chile and New Zealand, but not to the same degree.

In my opinion, Fall is the best season to vistit U.S.A. The weather is great (not so cold neither hot) and is one of the most beautiful time to see the trees!

Unfortunatelly, it won't lake long and all the leaves will fall down, and will just rest the branches during the end of Fall and all the Winter until Spring cames!

These go especially to my teenagers, so cute at the pictures!!!!!
Have you heard about Sudoku, an interesting and clever puzzle?!?

Sudoku is a number placement puzzle based on logic rather than mathematics.

The concept of Sudoku is simple.
The game is most frequently a 9x9 grid made up of 3x3 subgrids. Some cells already contain numbers, known as "givens". The goal is to fill in the empty cells, one number in each, so that each column, row, and region contains the numbers 1 through 9 exactly once. Each number in the solution therefore occurs only once in each of three "directions", hence the "single numbers" implied by the puzzle's title.

The main key to have to help solve these puzzles is patience and your use of logic skills.
This game is very clever, but it can sometimes make you feel as if you are going round in circles.
It should be noted that there is only one valid solution to each puzzle.
Well enough talking, you know the basics now, so try it!

I hope you have fun with the one below....

80's...dO nOt TaKe ThEm fOr GrAnTeD...

Some people say those years were "the lost decade", but some of us see through all that revolution and find much more out than those weird clothes and keyboards.

Music in the 1980s was characterized by unheard of electronic sounds accomplished through the use of synthesizers and keyboards, along with drum machines. This made a dramatic change in music. This kind of music was known by "New Wave".

New Wave in the United States is a popular term used to describe music that emerged in the late 1970s and crested during the 80's period in what was dubbed the second British Invasion when groups deemed “New Wave” scored high on the charts.

Starting in the early 1980s and continuing until around 1988, the term "New Wave" was used in America to describe nearly every new pop or pop rock artist that largely used synthesizers. Examples of artists defined in the United States as New Wave during this period that would not fit the original definition include Duran Duran, A Flock of Seagulls, Depeche Mode, Eurythmics, The Fixx, Thompson Twins, Tears For Fears, The Human League, Men Without Hats, Thomas Dolby, and Culture Club, Sex Pistols, Blondie, The Cure, A-ha, Pet Shop Boys and many others who made those years impossible to forget.
As a little example of what we're talking here it goes a video of A-ha, one of the most popular band of those great years, Duran Duran ( needless to say that this one is my favorite) and The Cure...
I hope you guys enjoy it...

A estes verdadeiros amigos, nossa admiração.

Obrigado. Parabéns a todas as pessoas especiais.

English is NOT difficult for us!!!

Hi, guys!

If you think speaking English is difficult for us, I mean brazilian people, you're going to change your mind now...

In this video, one french student is "trying" (in fact, just trying!) to pronounce the sentence "I would like to buy a hamburger".

I hope you enjoy it:

Isn't it funny?

So, what do you think? It's not so complicated to us, right???

Re-publishing "I carry your heart with me", 'cause it's a very inspiring poem.
It was written by E. E. Cummings.

I carry your heart with me (I carry it in
my heart).
I am never without it ( anywhere
I go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
By only me is your doing, my darling)
I fear no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet)
I want no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true)
And it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
And whatever a sun will always sing is you

Here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(Here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
And the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
Higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
And this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

I carry your heart ( I carry it in my heart)

Absolutely adorable! One of my favorite english poems.
And you? What's your favorite poem? Do you like love poems? Do you have a favorite writer? Who's he/she?

Have a great week!

And don't forget: FEIRA GASTRONÔMICA ON SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 20th!! IT STARTS AT 7 PM.

This goes especially to my students of "inter 3" - we've been reading about famous couples and I found this sweet picture about Jolie and Pitt's family. It's about the twins Knox Léon and Vivienne Marcheline first photos. Jolie talks to People magazine and describes her new routine: "It is chaos, but we are managing it and having a wonderful time".
The couple has other 4 children: Maddox, 6, Pax, 4, Zahara, 3, and Shiloh, 2.

You know you are talking to a blonde when...

* she called me to get my phone number.

* she spent 20 minutes looking at the orange juice box because it said "concentrate."

* she put lipstick on her forehead because she wanted to make up her mind.

* she tried to put M&M's in alphabetical order.

* she sent me a fax with a stamp on it.

* she tried to drown a fish.

* she thought a quarterback was a refund.

* she got locked in a grocery store and starved to death.

* she tripped over a cordless phone.

* she took a ruler to bed to see how long she slept.

* she asked for a price check at the Dollar Store.

* she studied for a blood test.

* she thought Meow Mix was a CD for cats.

* when she heard that 90% of all crimes occur around the home, she moved.

* when she missed the 44 bus, she took the 22 bus twice instead.

* when she took you to the airport and saw a sign that said "Airport Left" she turned around and went home

* She couldn't learn to water ski because she couldn't find a lake with a slope.

* She got excited because she finished a jigsaw puzzle in 6 months and the box said "2 to 4 years"

* She couldn't call 911 because there was no 11 on any phone button.

* When asked what the capital of California was; answered "C".

* She baked a turkey for 3 days because the instructions said 1 hour per pound and she weighed 125.

* After losing in a breaststroke swimming competition, she complained that the other swimmers were using their arms.

The story of the Hurricane

Ladies and gentlemen, today I want to introduce you a very interesting but cruel and controversial story. Here comes the story of Rubin "Hurricane" Carter, a great boxer from the 60's who was judged guilty on triple murder, and untill today his guilty or innocence remains undiscovered. Innocent or not, he stayed imprisioned for almost 20 years. Most people who defend his innocence say he was judged guilty only because of his african origins (and that, my friends, was a big deal in the 1960's USA), because the jury that told he was guilty was composed only by caucasian citziens.

The story of the Hurricane is so intriguing that it inspired a movie ("The Hurricane", from 1999), starring Denzel Washington in the role of Rubin. It's an AWESOME movie, and if you guys feel interested, ask me in class and maybe we can watch it together =)
It also inspired a song ("Hurricane", released in 1976) composed by Bob Dylan and Jacques Levy. Bob Dylan defends Hurricane in this song, saying he was a victim of racism. It's a long song because it tells aaaall the story of the Hurricane, but you know what? The song is perfect and the lyrics are great. That's why I want to share such interesting song and fact with all you!

Here's the song, followed by the lyrics. Play it and read the lyrics while you listen to the song.

Hurricane - Bob Dylan

Pistol shots ring out in the barroom night
Enter Patty Valentine from the upper hall.
She sees the bartender in a pool of blood,
Cries out, "My God, they killed them all!"
Here comes the story of the Hurricane,
The man the authorities came to blame
For somethin' that he never done.
Put in a prison cell, but one time he could-a been
The champion of the world.

Three bodies lyin' there does Patty see
And another man named Bello, movin' around mysteriously.
"I didn't do it," he says, and he throws up his hands
"I was only robbin' the register, I hope you understand.
I saw them leavin'," he says, and he stops
"One of us had better call up the cops."
And so Patty calls the cops
And they arrive on the scene with their red lights flashin'
In the hot New Jersey night.

Meanwhile, far away in another part of town
Rubin Carter and a couple of friends are drivin' around.
Number one contender for the middleweight crown
Had no idea what kinda s**t was about to go down
When a cop pulled him over to the side of the road
Just like the time before and the time before that.
In Paterson that's just the way things go.
If you're black you might as well not show up on the street
'Less you wanna draw the heat.

Alfred Bello had a partner and he had a rap for the cops.
Him and Arthur Dexter Bradley were just out prowlin' around
He said, "I saw two men runnin' out, they looked like middleweights
They jumped into a white car with out-of-state plates."
And Miss Patty Valentine just nodded her head.
Cop said, "Wait a minute, boys, this one's not dead"
So they took him to the infirmary
And though this man could hardly see
They told him that he could identify the guilty men.

Four in the mornin' and they haul Rubin in,
Take him to the hospital and they bring him upstairs.
The wounded man looks up through his one dyin' eye
Says, "Wha'd you bring him in here for? He ain't the guy!"
Yes, here's the story of the Hurricane,
The man the authorities came to blame
For somethin' that he never done.
Put in a prison cell, but one time he could-a been
The champion of the world.

Four months later, the ghettos are in flame,
Rubin's in South America, fightin' for his name
While Arthur Dexter Bradley's still in the robbery game
And the cops are puttin' the screws to him, lookin' for somebody to blame.
"Remember that murder that happened in a bar?"
"Remember you said you saw the getaway car?"
"You think you'd like to play ball with the law?"
"Think it might-a been that fighter that you saw runnin' that night?"
"Don't forget that you are white."

Arthur Dexter Bradley said, "I'm really not sure."
Cops said, "A poor boy like you could use a break
We got you for the motel job and we're talkin' to your friend Bello
Now you don't wanta have to go back to jail, be a nice fellow.
You'll be doin' society a favor.
That son-of-a-b***h is brave and gettin' braver.
We want to put his ass in stir
We want to pin this triple murder on him
He ain't no Gentleman Jim."

Rubin could take a man out with just one punch
But he never did like to talk about it all that much.
"It's my work", he'd say, "and I do it for pay
And when it's over I'd just as soon go on my way
Up to some paradise
Where the trout streams flow and the air is nice
And ride a horse along a trail".
But then they took him to the jailhouse
Where they try to turn a man into a mouse.

All of Rubin's cards were marked in advance
The trial was a pig-circus, he never had a chance.
The judge made Rubin's witnesses drunkards from the slums
To the white folks who watched he was a revolutionary bum
And to the black folks he was just a crazy nigger.
No one doubted that he pulled the trigger.
And though they could not produce the gun,
The D.A. said he was the one who did the deed
And the all-white jury agreed.

Rubin Carter was falsely tried.
The crime was murder "one," guess who testified?
Bello and Bradley and they both baldly lied
And the newspapers, they all went along for the ride.
How can the life of such a man
Be in the palm of some fool's hand?
To see him obviously framed
Couldn't help but make me feel ashamed to live in a land
Where justice is a game.

Now all the criminals in their coats and their ties
Are free to drink martinis and watch the sun rise
While Rubin sits like Buddha in a ten-foot cell
An innocent man in a living hell.
Yes, that's the story of the Hurricane,
But it won't be over till they clear his name
And give him back the time he's done.
Put in a prison cell, but one time he could-a been
The champion of the world.

You'll probably understand better if you're from Inter 5 or up, but if you don't understand at all, don't worry! Get a dictionary and try again =)

Did you know the story of the Hurricane? What do you think about it? Was it racism or he was the real murder? Have you ever watched "The Hurricane"? Would you like to? Do we have any similar story here in Brazil?

Have a nice week you all =)

xxx,
teacher Bel.

A stone circle is an ancient monument. Such a monument is not always precisely circular and often forms an ellipse, or a setting of four stones laid on an arc of a circle. They can be seen in many countries such as Britain, Ireland...

Machu Pichu

cHiLdHoOd MeMoRiEs...

Guys today I'm going to talk about a period of my life ( a period that everyone of us miss a lot, I bet!) : my (our) childhood.
I used to watch a very funny sitcom named "Blossom".
Here's its story:

Blossom was a half-hour comedy television series broadcast from 1991 to 1995 on NBC, Mondays at 8:30pm. The series starred Mayim Bialik as Blossom Russo, a teenage girl living with her father and two brothers. It was created by Don Reo.
The series begins with Blossom's mother having left the family to pursue her own life and career and the family trying to adjust. Blossom's dad Nick (Ted Wass) is a session musician who was frequently between gigs and tours. Her oldest brother Anthony (Michael Stoyanov) is a recovering alcoholic and drug addict. Joey (named Donny in the pilot episode) (Joey Lawrence), the other brother, is a fairly stereotypical "dumb jock", known for the drawn-out delivery of his catch phrase, "whoa".

Blossom's best friend Six LeMeure (Jenna von Oÿ) also plays a significant part in her life. Six, an especially fast talker, was best known for her tendency to ramble at an almost incoherent pace. Blossom also frequently received advice from famous celebrities in fantasy scenes, as Mr. T, Hugh Hefner, Phylicia Rashad (who played Blossom's vision of the ideal mother in the first episode) and Will Smith all made guest appearances during the show's run.

The theme music was "My Opinionation" by Mike Post and Steve Geyer and performed by recording artist Dr. John. The show was in syndication from 1995-1998. Many of the episodes were directed by Incredible Hulk star Bill Bixby, until his death.
(source:wikipedia.org)

here's the video of the opening theme (Blossom dances it in a very weird but cool way) kkkk oh, come on try to sing it if you guys have any memory of your childhood like I do!!! kkkkkk

Title: "My Opinionation"
By: "Mike Post and Steve Geyer"

Don't know about the future, that's anybody's guess.
Ain't no good reason for getting all depressed.
Buy up your pad and pencil, I'll give you a piece of my mind.
In my opinionation, the sun is gonna surely shine.

Stop all your fussin'.
Slap on a smile.
Come out and walk in the sun for awhile.

Don't fight the felling, you know you want to have a good time.
And in my opinionation, the sun is gonna surely shine.
